FG expresses joy over strongest economic performance since recession

The federal government has expressed joy over the figures of the 4th- quarter of 2018 that was released by the National Bureau of Statistics(NBS) on Tuesday.

The minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, made the expression during a chat with newsmen at Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Since the economic recession in 2016, the report shows that the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased  by 2.38%.

According to the Minister, the growth was largely achieved by the non-oil sector which grew by 2.70% in the quarter, posting a growth of 2.0% for full year 2018, representing the strongest growth in non-oil GDP since the fourthquarter of 2015.

He said that the report shows a sign of improvement adding that the country is on its way out of recession.

Senator Udoma also appluaded Buhari's administration for its continued implementation of targeted policies, programmes and projects across various MDAs and other sectors of the economy asset out in the ERGP noting that this effort has helped the economic growth of the country.

Also, during the dialogue session on Nigeria’s Economy organized by Deloitte in Lagos pen ultimate, the Minister had indicated that with the sustained implementation of the ERGP, the Nigerian economy will continue to maintain its recovery and increase its growth trajectory in 2019.

Although he noted that the growth performance is not where it ought to be, these figures shows that the economy will imporove with time.
