40 Secs Read

It appears laughter is approaching the faces of the 1 , 731 retired workers of the defunct Savannah Sugar Company in the coming days.

It should be recalled that the company, which is located in Numan, Adamawa State , was acquired by the Dangote Group of Companies about 16 years ago.

This took place in 2003 during the regime of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Right now, the Federal Government has eventually commenced the verification exercise of all retirees and retrenched workers .

The Executive Secretary of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD ), Sharon Ikeazor, has told the Press that the exercise is just for the ex -workers of Savannah Sugar.

According to her, it shows how committed the President Muhammadu Buhari ’ s administration is committed to improving the welfare of all Nigerian pensioners (especially those ignored by previous administrations)

Ikeazor also added that her team moved from Abuja to Yola just to see to it that the pensioners won't have to go through the stress of traveling to Abuja.

She also stated that the verification exercise will only last for nine days, and that it is just for workers who were disengaged in 2002 after the Obasanjo regime privatised the company.
